The Motley Fool

The Motley Fool's (TMF) mission is to educate, amuse and enrich, and, in my experience, The Fool has been successful on all accounts. Not only did my investing approach and knowledge improve, I have been a more successful investor and I feel a part of a community that works together to make investing fun.

If you enjoy investing and want to be a more active manager of your portfolio, I strongly advise a thorough review of TMF's podcasts and website. Much can be gained without becoming a paid subscriber so take a tour of fool.com.

Morningstar

I primarily use Morningstar data to update my investment models and earnings date calendar, but it is also a useful source of fund information and I have also read Morningstar research reports - accessed through one of our discount brokers.

Morgan Housel of the Collaborative Fund

I’ve been reading Morgan’s blogs since he wrote for The Motley Fool. Morgan’s writing style simplifies difficult concepts and makes you feel smarter after you’ve read his work. Morgan became a published author in October 2020 when he released The Psychology of Money. I bought the book on preorder the Kindle edition as soon as I learned it was available (ordered in June 2020; delivered in October) and I also used an Audible credit for the audiobook. If my collections of anecdotal memories is any gauge, it is the best finance book written in years.

Seeking Alpha

A treasure trove of articles written by a diverse group of contributors that range from CFA charterholders to anonymous hacks, Seeking Alpha is most useful because they provide free earnings call transcripts and easy access to press releases and SEC filings for most public companies.

Podcasts

When out for a long run, during a long drive, or while prepping dinner for the kids, I often listen to podcasts to stay current with market news and learn about other investors' experience and investment process. My favorites are linked below.

Other investing and Economics Resources

FinanceCharts

  • Thanks, Avery! The above link to the glossary of stock market and financial investing terms at financecharts.com was shared by Avery and his grandmother, Annie.

  • In addition to this glossary, FinanceCharts looks like a very helpful resource for investors.

Coupon Follow

  • Thanks, Olivia! This link was shared by Olivia, whose class found the links on this page useful. Couponing is a great way to practice financial discipline.

  • The coupons I use most regularly use are from Costco. We shop for most of our groceries and other purchases at Costco. Costco operates on a membership model, and most of the company’s profit is fees paid by members. As executive members, we earn a yearly membership dividend that exceeds the cost of our memberships.

Transferly - Economics Resources

  • Thanks Skylar!

  • I have not used Transferly, nor do I recommend their services but the page linked above was shared with me as an educational resource.
